“Midna’s Desperate Hour” Video, from Zelda: Twilight Princess

A somber piano piece from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It plays once in the game, when Link carries the wounded Midna to see Princess Zelda.

Fun fact: the entire melody is just the Hyrule Field theme with Midna’s theme interjected, over an arpeggiated reharmonization.

  1. I have no idea what "arpeggiated reharmonization" means, but that is an awesome fun fact.

  2. I have to go with Moxie's comment here. I..err..have no clue what that means.
Come to think of it, I don't even remember what Hyrule Theme sounds like anymore..

  3. I didn't even realized it was Hyrule Theme, but know that I listen to it it's true. In Twilight Princess the Main Theme is repeated over and over again. That's not a bad thing, though.

Anyway, awesome job! it's sounds better than in the actual Game. Loved the dynamics and the final part.

  4. Haha, this fun fact is quite fun after all!

Reharmonization pretty much means putting a different set of chords under a melody than whatever was there before. An arpeggio is... well, wikipedia explains it pretty well:

"...is a broken chord where the notes are played or sung in sequence, one after the other, rather than ringing out simultaneously."

The entire left hand in Midna's Desperate Hour is arpeggiated. And even though the melody is the Hyrule Field theme, it sounds different because the chords under it are new, which completely changes the context and mood.

If you guys wanna see some "reharmonization," here's a Zelda tune you'll recognize: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZmOxoo95Oc

  11. Beautiful performance! Besides I love deeply that song, although I never actually played Zelda TP... sob...
However, I think you should have differenciated the part of the melody played in strings, maybe going one 8º up, since the music sustains a conversation all along.
