“Good Egg Galaxy” Video and Sheet Music, from Super Mario Galaxy

I’ve been sick and holed up in my room for the last few days, but somehow I managed to find the energy to perform the “Good Egg Galaxy” theme. This is the first Super Mario Galaxy song that I transcribed to sheet music, back when the game just came out. The arrangement has gone through a lot of changes since then, as I’ve become familiar with the music and a little more confident in myself as a pianist. Hope you enjoy it!

  2. The plushy on your piano is adorable.

Have you ever thought of arranging these songs for say, beginner solo viola? (c clef--weird, I know), and of course, no chords.

It's a real pain finding anything I can even play on my viola that pertains to my interest. I mean, there's nothing wrong with classical pieces, but they're just not me (and needs like 20 other people there to make it sounds right, not to mention that they are normally very complex). And everything I might care about out there are always arranged for piano or guitar (maybe violin every now and then). Honestly, I feel so marginalized.

  3. For you, Savin, of course!

I've never written for a solo string instrument before, but I'm willing to try. It'd be good practice. What songs would you like to play? And what techniques have you learned thus far? (Pizzicato? Double stops?)

I didn't know you played viola, btw. That's so awesome.

  4. I'm a big fan of your Mario Galaxy sheet music and your fantastic playing. I have all of your sheet music so far, my favourite being your Buoy Base. They are spot on with the originals, even with the epicness (?) of some of them. You add your own twists too, which is even better!

I'm wondering if you take requests. If you do, is it possible for you to make sheet music for the FreezeFlame galaxy? I've recently heard you play it and it sounds awesome! Also, the song "Into the Galaxy" on the Mario Galaxy: OST is also a worthy piece to have in the collection.

Thank you for your generousity and keep up with your astounding playing! :)

  5. Thank you, Nat! I'm happy that you're enjoying my arrangements, especially since I do put a lot of thought into them. :)

I try my best to take requests, so I'll definitely look at "Into the Galaxy" in the future. Unfortunately, I've put Freezeflame Galaxy behind me, so I don't plan to make sheet music for it at the moment... A few others have also asked for it, though, so perhaps I'll change my mind later. :)

  6. Hey, Aivi, it's me again! I hope everything is going well. ;)

I am wondering if you are able to arrange several more of my favourite Mario Galaxy songs. They are the Purple Coins theme, the Melty Molten Galaxy theme, and "Chase the Rabbits!". You can hear the songs by going to youtube and typing in "Super Mario Galaxy OST (and the song name)".

The first two songs are very cool sounding and epic, and the third song is really fun and catchy. I'm sure you'd like them too! :)

Thank you very much! And I hope I'm not burdening you with too many songs. :(

  7. Hey again, Nat! I'm actually not a big fan of the "Chase the Bunnies" song. But I do love the other two songs - I'm trying to coordinate a "Melty Molten" piano duet with a friend of mine, so hopefully that goes well. As for the "Purple Coins" theme, there's a fantastic piano version of it here that you can listen to, by a pianist I admire:

If I were to arrange it myself, it would probably sound a lot like that, only less epic. :P

  9. Hey Leah! I haven't played Super Paper Mario, either... what's up with you playing games I haven't played? Hehe, just kidding.

  10. Could you play the Honeyhive/Gold Leaf galaxy music? and the Dino Piranha theme by itself?
Maybe even the Dusty Dune Galaxy or the Beach Bowl Galaxy. I know, I have a truckload of requests. ^-^

  13. I passed 4th grade and now studying 5th grade pieces and theory, how long do you think it will take to play this piece? It looks really difficult to me but i would love to play it just for fun.
And hopefully perhaps play it as an exam piece. But i'd need permission from the original composer and transcriber. From you im sure youd be glad to hear that its being played in an exam but i dont think i could ever contact Koji Kondo to ask...plus i dont speak japanese O_o.
Its one of the big things that i like about Super Mario Galaxy, that most of the music is orchestral and fits well with the space theme.

  14. Wow how brilliant!!well done im so thoroghly impressed by your playing!i myself am obsessed with Nintendo video game music, aswell as the video games!in a recital, i played a combination of meledies from Zelda Twilight princess, the audience were suitably surprised considering I played them after a C.p.e bach piece..
Let JGame music take over the world!!

  15. @Lionzz - I think you could learn it. :) Video game music is hard to judge because it's not technically difficult, but the music wasn't written for piano, so VG arrangements often feel awkward under your fingertips. At least, that's where I have the most difficulty. Anyway, I can't speak for Koji Kondo but I definitely don't mind if you perform this arrangement.

@Anonymous - That sounds awesome! I'm curious about what melodies from Twilight Princess you played...

  16. well no i played the fairies song, the one played when ur choosing a file?cept advanced it a bit(inversioned chords in the left hand It sounded beautiful),then lost woods, midnas lament&windmill hut. I love messing around with the melodies&combining them allXD. The audience were suitably surprised,,I live in Dublin and the high class classical music society are not used to such, How i love bringing random pieces into view.

Listen, I posted this earlier on in 'To the Gateway' sheet music, But i was wondering if you could possibly transcribe Hyrule Temple from Link's awakening?

  19. Another beautifully played song. I think your difficulty is a bit wrong though. Please don't hate me for saying that. It's just that I'm having a much harder time with buoy base galaxy and this one was quite easy compared to it. Maybe it's just that buoy base galaxy is more advanced. Or maybe it's just me. Also I can't seem to get those lower G's after the C's in the beginning. When I try to do it I loose the rhythm and the next C comes in late. Also I can't do the 2 G's that fast since I have to use my pinky to hit them. Any other finger would slow me down more. But when you do it it's so clean and perfect. Could you suggest anything?

  22. I'm amazed at how well you play! This is my favourite song in Super Mario Galaxy! Before, I thought I was a good piano player but, when I saw you, you BLEW me out of the water!!! You inspired me to play more, and i want to thank you! Keep up this amazing work! :D

  23. hey Aivi is it possible that you make a simpler version of the song because its hard for me to play it. :(

  24. I like your sheet music for GoodEgg but I can't play the octaves part that goes:

    cgGGcGGFaFG...

    and so on...

Any way you could do a simpler arrangement?

  25. Wow. I thought I was good...

  26. ...I...I'm speechless. That was amazing. Wonderfully arranged and wonderfully performed. I have never felt more of a terrible piano player :P Great job!

  27. I absolutely love your arrangements. I've just about mastered Rosalina's story and the main observatory theme with my own little embelishments. By far the most impressive thing about this game has to be the score and i just wanted to let you know that i really appreciate you making these.

Incidently i've been trying to play good egg galaxy for a time now and i can't seem to get the coordination down, do you think it'd be possible to make a less advanced version? This is one of the epic-est melodies in the game and i'd love if you could do this, keep being awesome x3.

  28. i wish you would make a beginner/simpler version of this song... btw you're awesome

  29. I just read you haven't played Paper Mario, and I have only one thing to say about that: you should reaaaally play that game. It's the best!

Even though the first Paper Mario was awesome, it got a little bit old, so I would recommend playing Paper Mario: the Thousand-Year Door. If you're not completely sure, watch a trailer (even though there aren't many good ones). You'll fall in love with the cute style. (:
And, if you like Paper Mario: the Thousand-Year Door, you can buy the first Paper Mario on the Wii for a pretty low price.

    Sorry, I keep rambling.
I just really like the game. :)

  33. Oh man...so beautiful! And there's sheet music! It seems like its so rare to find someone online who makes covers as elegantly as you AND shares their sheet music with everyone. I feel like I've struck gold with your site!

Thanks for the awesome inspiration! I will be busy at my piano for awhile...and I can't wait to hear your gusty garden galaxy cover! Amazing song choice as usual.
