“Midna’s Desperate Hour” Sheet Music, from Zelda: Twilight Princess

I received a few requests to perform “Midna’s Desperate Hour” from Twilight Princess on YouTube, so I transcribed it to sheet music a few months ago in preparation.

Midna’s Desperate Hour
Format: PDF
Difficulty:
Intermediate
Info: A somber piano piece that occurs when Link carries the weakened, wounded Midna to see Princess Zelda. (Hear the original.)

I’m more likely to transcribe a simple piano piece than an orchestral one, even though playing complex music from sheet music seems more helpful. With orchestral pieces, I like having the freedom to choose what instruments and musical textures to accent, and I interpret the original differently each time I perform it. Transcribing notes to paper is difficult when I don’t have a specific plan (as opposed to something like the “Boss Battle Piano Medley” arrangement.)

On the other hand, when the original piece is a piano solo, I try to replicate it note-for-note, which makes writing sheet music more helpful. That being said, please enjoy “Midna’s Desperate Hour.”

  2. I love this music so much! It's very beautiful. I've been wanting the sheet music for a while now. Thanks a lot for transcribing and posting it! The only thing I'm not sure about is how to do the fingerings for the bass clef. But I can ask my piano teacher about that. Thanks again!

  3. Wow...what you do inspires me to play the piano more. It's interesting how you're able to transpose these pieces. How do you do it? Is there some sort of program?

  4. Oops, I said "transpose" (too many piano words in my head).
    I meant "transcribe."

  5. It's a great piece of music and while playing it, I feel kind a sad. It's wonderful and applaudable that someone is able to compose such music, that can releases so many emotions in yourself. Thank you so much for posting it! (Sorry for my bad english)

  6. Thank you for this beautiful music! You play beautifully.

I have a question though...I'm pretty sure there's a part missing in your sheets. The end, to be more precise... I think the sheets stop at what I would guess is 1:30 in your video. It doesn't make this transcript any less awesome, but just thought you should know, in case you didn't!

  7. @rakohshna - Thank you very much! To answer your question, I wrote out the sheet music before I played it and placed a repeat sign at the end to indicate where the music loops in the game. When I was making the video, I improvised the ending.

  19. You do realize this piece is really titled "Midna's Lament" right?

Your title is wrong. I like the piece, but would it hurt to correct the title?

  20. To above: "Midna's Desperate Hour" is its official title listed in Smash Bros. Brawl. I ended up choosing it over "Lament" because this piece doesn't follow the musical characteristics of a lament (a chromatically descending ostinato in the bass, like in "Dido's Lament" by Purcell or "Jack's Lament" from the Nightmare Before Christmas).
