Ever notice that the “Prologue” from Beauty and the Beast sounds a bit like “Aquarium” from Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals?

The Enchanted Rose
“The Enchanted Rose” is an alternate theme that I composed for the Beast’s Castle world from Kingdom Hearts II. I’m a fan of the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack by Alan Menken, and when I imagine the Beast’s Castle, I think of watery piano runs, haunting strings and gentle melodies. I was a little jolted by the crashing cymbals and fast pace of “Waltz of the Damned” from Kingdom Hearts, so I wanted to try composing something closer to Alan Menken’s enchanting soundtrack, while keeping the light-hearted bounce of Kingdom Hearts music.
Ever notice that the “Prologue” from Beauty and the Beast sounds a bit like “Aquarium” from Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals?

Wow... This is really very well done. I'm impressed, I've been going through the videos and things on your blog, and we share a very similar musical taste, I haven't found a single thing I didn't enjoy. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who can see the charm in the game tunes. ^_^
ReplyDeleteHi Nicholas! I'm glad we share similar tastes, too. I think a lot of game tunes are memorable and well-crafted, it's just a matter of getting past the MIDI instrumentation (though MIDI can be a charming art form all on its own). Thanks a lot for stopping by. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Aivi.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you actually composed this beautiful song. When I first heard this song I imagine a live story but the two lovers couldn't be together and she went away from him and then the strong part of the song comes to play. Like I have said if you really put your heart in this songs you will surely get somewhere in your life as a composer and pianist. By the way the blog is really well done and I love the "waltz for luma" sign at the beginning.
Its me again the anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you that I'm a big super fan of the Kingdom Hearts Series and I recomend you to play the song of the main menu of Kingdom Hearts. (sorry forgot the name) That's such a beautiful song as well. Soon Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep will come out. I will tell you if there are good songs in the game you should play. By the way you can call me Ri wich is the way they call me.
Hi Ri, thanks a lot! I think the Dearly Beloved theme from KH2 is absolutely gorgeous. Admittedly I never got the chance to finish the game, but I'm always up for listening to good game music no matter where it's from. :)
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiosity, do you have a yamaha clavinova? From watching your videos I reconized your piano, because mine is similar. (I have a clavinova)
ReplyDelete~M-Rick
Hi M-Rick, you are correct - I have a Yamaha Clavinova CVP-96. Nice to see another Clavinova user out there!
ReplyDeleteDid you use your clavinova to record your pieces like this one?
ReplyDelete~M-Rick
Yes, I did. :)
ReplyDeleteI figured! haha. The instrumentation seemed very similar to a clavinova. =D That's pretty amazing! I don't think i could have the patience to record all of those tracks. Not to mention the time it took to write the music. You have a good talent there Aivi!

Can you convert this to piano and make sheet music? I love waltz of the damned and can play it on piano, but this is remarkably good. on a scale of 1 to 10, this gets an easy 15
ReplyDeleteOHYMGODDESS!!! Yes please that would be brilliant if you could get sheet music for this! :)
